A loosened tahini-hemp sauce that goes on roasted vegetables, falafel, grain bowls, and grilled meat. The hemp hearts blend into the sauce, contributing complete protein and rounding the tahini.
Hemp Tahini Sauce
Yields about 3/4 cup. Prep 5 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 1/4 cup hemp hearts
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons warm water (more as needed)
- 1 small garlic clove, microplaned
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Method
- Whisk all ingredients in a small bowl. The mixture will seize and look broken before it comes together; keep whisking.
- Add water 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach pourable consistency.
- Taste. Adjust lemon, salt, and sweetness.
Note
For a perfectly smooth sauce, blend in a small bullet blender; the hemp hearts disappear completely. Leaving them whole works fine too if you like the texture.
