Hemp Trail Mix

A trail mix template that scales for a hike or a week of desk snacking. The hemp hearts and pumpkin seeds carry the protein; the dried fruit keeps it from being only nuts.

Hemp Trail Mix

Yields about 5 cups. Prep 5 minutes.

Base

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 1 cup raw cashews or walnuts
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup hemp hearts
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries or chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chunks or chips
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Method

  1. Optional: toast nuts and seeds (not hemp) on a sheet pan at 175°C for 8-10 minutes, watching closely. Cool fully before mixing.
  2. Combine everything in a large bowl. Store in jars.

  • Tropical: macadamia, cashew, dried pineapple, mango, coconut, hemp.
  • Trail energy: peanuts, raisins, M&Ms or chocolate, sunflower seeds, hemp.
  • Savory: roasted edamame, peanuts, wasabi peas, hemp hearts, sea salt.
  • Holiday: pecans, dried cherries, white chocolate chips, candied ginger, hemp.
