Hemp Golden Milk Latte

A turmeric latte built on hemp milk. The black pepper is not optional; it makes the curcumin in turmeric significantly more absorbable. Calming, anti-inflammatory, ideal before bed.

Hemp Golden Milk Latte

Yields 1 large mug. Prep 5 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups hemp milk (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (or 1 teaspoon fresh grated)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil or ghee
  • Optional: pinch of cardamom or cayenne

Method

  1. Whisk hemp milk and all spices in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Heat until steaming but not boiling, about 3 minutes.
  3. Whisk in honey and coconut oil.
  4. Pour into a mug. Dust with extra cinnamon.

Notes

The black pepper increases curcumin bioavailability roughly 20-fold (the piperine inhibits hepatic and intestinal glucuronidation, per the often-cited 1998 Shoba study). Without pepper, most of the turmeric is excreted unchanged.
